2024 SACQSP INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH CONFERENCE

Theme:
Disrupting Tradition: The Evolutionary Crossroads of the Quantity Surveying Profession
Durban Coastlands Umhlanga Hotel, 21-22 October 2024

Organised by the
SOUTH AFRICAN COUNCIL FOR THE QUANTITY SURVEYING PROFESSION

MAIN THEME EXPLANATION

The principal theme of the conference, "Disrupting Tradition: The Evolutionary Crossroads of the Quantity Surveying Profession," functions as an academic impetus for a critical appraisal of the ongoing and indispensable evolution within the domain of quantity surveying. This theme compels professionals, scholars, and industry luminaries to engage with the swiftly evolving terrains of construction, economics, and technological advancements, thereby interrogating the profession's capacity to either adapt to these changes or risk obsolescence. It advocates for a rigorous examination of the necessity for the quantity surveying discipline to undergo transformation to sustain its relevance, efficacy, and influence amidst burgeoning challenges such as the advent of artificial intelligence, the pervasive influence of the construction mafia, the rise of digitalisation, practices of fee discounting, evolving gender dynamics, shifts in the global economic landscape, issues of delayed payments, the imperative of sustainable development, and overarching transformation imperatives. This theme represents a clarion call for introspective analysis and proactive engagement, prompting a reassessment of entrenched methodologies and the adoption of innovative, flexible strategies poised to redefine the trajectory of the quantity surveying profession.

Two hundred delegates are expected to register for the conference, which will include academics, post-graduate researchers and practitioners involved in the built environment.
